Investigation
Investigation Theme:
• The Vibe: Analytical, deductive, and highly narrative. This theme places players firmly in the shoes of detectives, forensic investigators, or amateur sleuths trying to uncover the hidden truth behind a mystery. The tone ranges from classic Victorian whodunits to modern true-crime procedural cases. Unlike action-heavy Crime games, the focus here is strictly on the intellectual pursuit of answers: combing through evidence, interrogating suspects, mapping out timelines, and eliminating red herrings to solve a specific puzzle.
• Gameplay Impact: Gameplay is completely logic-driven and often heavily cooperative. Mechanics usually center around information management, secret logs, and process of elimination. Players might read through detailed case files, scan physical components (like newspapers or directories) for hidden clues, or use smartphone companion apps to “scan” a crime scene. The structural tension comes from a lack of information; you are given a limited number of actions or a ticking clock, forcing your team to decide which leads are worth chasing and which are distractions.
