Area Influence
Area Influence Games:
• The Mechanism: Often grouped closely with “Area Control,” Area Influence (or Area Majority) relies on players placing tokens, cubes, or figures into shared regions on the board. Rather than keeping others out entirely, multiple players can coexist in the same region, and rewards are distributed based on who has the first, second, or third most pieces there.
• Gameplay: It plays like an ongoing, organic auction across a map. You might drop a couple of cubes into a region to take the lead, but an opponent can swoop in and add three of their own. It creates high-interaction, diplomatic tension as players constantly eye each other’s counts and fight over lucrative majorities.
• Example Board Games: El Grande, The King is Dead, San Marco, Tammany Hall
